Coach David Quinn leaving Lake Erie Monsters to become assistant with Colorado Avalanche

Cleveland, Ohio - David Quinn is now the former coach of the Lake Erie Monsters. He is leaving to take an assistant coaching position with the Colorado Avalanche in the NHL.

Quinn will join Tim Army behind the bench as the two assistants under head coach Joe Sacco, who was Quinn's predecessor as the Monsters' head coach.

Quinn, 45, has spent the last three seasons as the Monsters' head coach, posting a 115-94-7-20 record in 236 games. He led Lake Erie to its first-ever playoff berth in 2010-11. The Monsters were 37-29-3-7 in 2011-12.

Following this past season, Quinn served as an assistant coach for the U.S. team at the IIHF World Championship in Stockholm and Helsinki.

He joined the Avs organization after a successful five-year stint as associate head coach at Boston University, a run that concluded with an NCAA championship in 2009.

Quinn was a first-round pick by the Minnesota North Stars in the 1984 NHL Entry Draft.
