Midwest Environmental Advocates is the first and only non-profit environmental law center in Wisconsin. MEA provides legal and technical support to grassroots groups that are working for environmental justice in the Western Great Lakes region.

Position Overview:

Midwest Environmental Advocates is seeking a full-time Outreach & Communications Coordinator. The Coordinator will work with a dynamic team to implement external communications strategies to increase awareness of environmental issues and connect people working toward creative solutions. The Coordinator will be supervised by the Executive Director. This position will be based in our Madison office.

Responsibilities:

Essential duties and responsibilities of this position include:?? ?

Communications:

• Work collaboratively with staff to translate complex issues into understandable language for the general public through traditional and emerging methods of communication
• Draft and distribute press releases and media advisories
• Produce and distribute electronic action alerts as needed
• Coordinate use of social media to increase visibility of environmental issues
• Provide drafting and editorial support on fact sheets, citizen guides and other written communications

Outreach & Member Relations:

• Develop and implement targeted outreach activities
• Serve leading role in annual membership renewal process
• Coordinate the production and distribution of bi-annual newsletter, annual report and monthly electronic member communications
• Maintain member database system and produce reports for staff and board
• Coordinate outreach efforts at community events

Data Systems:

• Assist Director Administration and Finance with management of internal network and server
• Work with staff to maintain website and ensure content is relevant and that major initiatives are highlighted

Qualifications:

Ideal candidates will have the following:

• Bachelor's degree and 3 or more years of relevant work experience
• Effective communication skills both orally and in writing
• Ability to plan, schedule and organize multiple priorities, both individually and as part of a team
• Experience working with volunteers and members
• Commitment to protecting the environment

Compensation: Salary is competitive and is commensurate with experience. Midwest Environmental Advocates offers a generous benefits package that includes health and dental insurance, 403(b) retirement contribution, and 13 paid holidays. Our offices are in downtown Madison on public transit lines.
