What you should integrate into your Mobile Marketing Strategy.

TextSprout Mobile Marketing Blog: What you should integrate into your Mobile Marketing Strategy.

What you should integrate into your Mobile Marketing Strategy.

In the 1990?s, as the Internet was beginning to take shape and grow, a lot of businesses started to test online marketing.? They bought banner ads, created websites and put the address of their website on their business cards. This, for many, was their ?online marketing strategy? and in a word it was indistinct. The problem, many soon realized, was that a website and some banner ads does not a marketing strategy make, and this is the same thing that many businesses today are starting to realize with mobile marketing. What business owners realized back then was that the real power of any marketing tool is how it integrates with all of their other marketing channels.? With mobile marketing business owners now have a powerful tool that can do just that and integrate extremely well into their marketing strategy. The simple fact is that mobile on its own can bring in some customers and revenue but, just like internet marketing, ?it works well as an adjunct to other marketing channels that are already in use, supporting those channels and being a sort of ?ambassador? to the brand.? Not only can mobile be integrated almost seamlessly into practically any marketing plan it can also add a powerful call-to-action to just about any scheme and can be tied to analytics that will help steer upcoming marketing decisions and campaigns. If you?re interested in using mobile (and you should be) looking at techniques or distribution mediums is not your first step.? No, first and foremost you should take a long, hard look at where you currently put your advertising budget to work and what the results are. No matter what you?re doing, from TV to billboards, radio and print, analyze where mobile fits in and can be used with the greatest chance for success. A mobile website is almost a no-brainer for example. Just as a website was the de-rigeur tool back then a mobile optimized website is now. Sending your customers to your regular website when they?re using their mobile devices like smart phones and tablets is like asking them to buy a TV that isn?t flat; it?s not going to make them very happy and they?re going to walk away thinking you?re a fool. If you were in business in the 90?s think about how you integrated the internet into your marketing plans and try to do the same now for mobile.? SMS text marketing, QR codes, mobile coupons, mobile apps and so forth are the tools of the new marketing age.? Incorporate them into your overall marketing scheme and they?ll work for you the way a well-made website used to years ago, only better.

(AP) ? Justin Timberlake will be rocking that suit and tie at the Grammy Awards.

The Recording Academy announced Wednesday that Timberlake will perform at the Feb. 10 awards show in Los Angeles.

The 32-year-old pop star returned to music earlier this month when he released the single, "Suit & Tie," which features Jay-Z. The song is a Top 5 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 charts.

His performance at the Grammys will be Timberlake's first musical appearance on television in years. Most recently, he's appeared in movies like "The Social Network" and "Friends With Benefits."

Timberlake's third solo album, "The 20/20 Experience," will be released March 19. His last album was the 2006 multiplatinum effort, "FutureSex/LoveSounds."

The Grammys will air live on CBS from the Staples Center.

Facebook's Mobile E-Commerce Solution - Business Insider

socialcommercesumchilogo_edited-1.jpgLearn the latest strategies in e-commerce and social media at Social Commerce Summit on February 6, 2013, in New York. Speakers include Walmart, Rue La La, TripAdvisor and other major brands, startups and VCs. Reserve your ticket now.

Facebook did not get much attention last October when it officially launched "mobile app install ads," in part because the company unveiled about a dozen new ad products in 2012 and, from the users' point of view, many of them kinda looked the same.

Also, mobile app install ads appeared to be mainly for mobile game and app developers ? and apps and games for Facebook are old news.

But several of Facebook's big advertising clients who have used the ads in Q4 indicated that the ads can be used to develop e-commerce on Facebook, turning the social network into a mobile shopping and sales device.

The ad units simply allow users to download the clients' app from Google Play or the App Store.

Lucy Jacobs, COO of Spruce Media, tells us "the performance is right in the strike zone to be ROI positive." E-commerce app downloads are much more valuable to advertisers than mere impressions because someone with an app is likely to use it repeatedly over time. Each app install therefore delivers a "lifetime" of revenue -- meaning an average period of monetized use until the user abandons it -- rather than a one-off sale.

Fab.com CEO Jason Goldberg, whose company tested the ad unit with Fab's shopping app, says it was "Five times more effective than any other mobile download channel that we've used." Fab is one of Facebook's biggest advertisers.

Nanigans, a company that licenses adtech software for Facebook clients, also tested the app for an unnamed e-commerce company. Mobile app install ads moved that client into the top 5 downloaded apps on Facebook within 10 days of the campaign starting, the company said. The campaign cost $325,000 and delivered 32.5 million ad impressions.

And Hotel Tonight, an app that drives last-minute hotel bookings, saw a 10 times higher click-to-install rate from the ads over regular Facebook ads. (That campaign was coupled with a Facebook Offer, another of Facebook's e-commerce plays.) ?I feel like a kid in a candy store with all these choices. It performs better from a click-to-install perspective than anything except incentivized ads. From an efficiency standpoint, it?s on par with everybody else out there today,? Hotel Tonight's director of mobile marketing Adam Grenier has said (quoted in a Facebook case study).

The fact that Hotel Tonight used the ad unit along with a Facebook Offer is instructive ? Facebook has launched a number of e-commerce plays (including Offers, Gifts and Deals) and not seen much traction with users.

Perhaps mobile app install ads are where Facebook's e-commerce sweet spot might be found ? not actually doing transactions but driving traffic to those who do.

Disclosure: The author owns Facebook stock.

Art exhibit highlights Christian symbol | UMHB The Bells Online

From a sixth century coin, to pieces from the Middle Ages and? Renaissance, to modern American works, the Cross/ Purpose art exhibit displays how artists throughout history have depicted the crucifix and cross in various expressive ways.

The traveling show from Christians in the Visual Arts includes 49 artworks and is on view until Feb. 1 in the Baugh Center for the Visual Arts. An opening reception was held Jan. 10.

Professor and Chair for the art department Hershall Seals said the exhibit complements the university?s values.

?Since this is a Christian institution, we felt it was a really good fit to bring quality works of art that deal with our primary theological source, which is Christ,? he said.

Though it deals with a religious theme, Seals believes it can be of interest to a wide audience.

?The show is not only interesting to Christians who are more theologically? interested, but it?s also a show that appeals to fine artists who may or may not be that enthused about the subject,? he said.

?What?s so interesting is the variety of art in it and the quality of the prints and drawings and paintings.?

With pieces spanning so many time periods, the exhibit is also a lesson in art history and has received positive reactions so far.

?People who have seen the show love it,? Seals said. ?I think they can get a miniature art history overview?. You can see by looking from picture to picture to picture where that thing came from, historically speaking, by the way that image is drawn, the technique. To me, the takeaway is the beauty of the differences in the art historical time frame.?

Sophomore graphic design major Brittany Davis found the etchings particularly? interesting.

?They had so much detail on such a small amount of space,? she said.

Sophomore fine arts major Sarah Wright was also impressed with the quality of the show?s pieces.

?I really enjoyed looking at the old lithograph pieces that incorporated a lot of figures, symbols and beautiful details of the moment Jesus was on the cross. I also enjoyed looking at the abstract versions of Jesus?s crucifixion as well. The impact of the harsh lines and the use of colors emphasized the pain and suffering He had endured,? she said.

Overall, Davis enjoyed the exhibit?s theme and the quality of the show and believes other students should take advantage of the opportunities to see such works.

?UMHB chooses art exhibits that have a lot of meaning,? she said. ?All art is meant to communicate to the viewer. That?s the point of art, to evoke feeling and emotion, so the art chosen at UMHB really represents our school as a whole?.?

Seals said the Cross/ Purpose exhibit, as well as other shows are part of the department?s efforts to create a well-rounded individual with a broad sense of the world in which they live.

He said, ?It?s not that we?re trying to force culture down people?s throats, but we?re making more aggressively available to students objects of beauty here in the art department, and objects that make people think.?

Caleb Moore Condition: Family Of Snowmobiler Not Hopeful For Survival After Winter X Games Crash

DENVER -- Snowmobiler Caleb Moore was in critical condition Tuesday in a Colorado hospital after a dramatic crash at the Winter X Games in Aspen, and a relative said the family wasn't hopeful about the 25-year-old's chances for survival.

Moore was performing a flip Thursday when he clipped the top of a jump and went over the handlebars and landed face first into the snow. The snowmobile rolled over him, but he walked off with help and went to a hospital with a concussion.

Moore later developed bleeding around his heart and was flown to a hospital in Grand Junction for surgery. The family later said that Moore, of Krum, Texas, also had a complication involving his brain.

"Caleb is not doing good at all," his grandfather Charles Moore told The Denver Post. "The prognosis is not good at all. It's almost certain he's not going to make it."

A family spokeswoman reissued a statement Tuesday thanking fans, friends and family for their support and asked for continued prayers. The family declined further comment.

A separate accident Thursday left Moore's younger brother, Colten, with a separated pelvis at Winter X, an increasingly popular event that showcases the world's best action sports athletes in a festival atmosphere.

The safety of the snowmobile events has fallen under scrutiny with several recent accidents and mishaps. In addition to the crashes by the Moore brothers, there also was a scary scene when a runaway sled veered into the crowd Sunday night after the rider fell off during a jump gone wrong.

In that incident, snowmobiling newcomer Jackson Strong tumbled off his machine during the best trick competition. The throttle stuck on the 450-pound sled and it swerved straight toward the crowd as fans scurried out of the way.

In a statement, X Games officials said their thoughts and prayers were with Caleb and his family. They also said that they've paid close attention to safety issues during the event's 18-year history.

"Still, when the world's best compete at the highest level in any sport, risks remain. Caleb is a four-time X Games medalist who fell short on his rotation on a move he has landed several times previously," the statement said.

To help defray the medical costs, a website has been set up for the family. There's a picture of Moore on the site and a message that reads: "Caleb Moore is an inspiration to us all and we want to support him and his family so they may stay strong during this difficult time. If you are not familiar with Caleb, he lives life to the fullest.

"The world knows Caleb as a brilliant freestyle rider, but his family and friends know him as a fun-loving and deeply loyal person."

In addition, Strong pledged to auction off his outfit from Winter X and donate the proceeds to the Moore family.

Moore grew up racing all-terrain vehicles in Texas and later crossed over into snowmobiling, his agent, B.C. Vaught, said. Two weeks after Vaught said he taught the 17-year-old Caleb to do a backflip, he said he was ready for prime time and joined Vaught's road show, including a trip to Europe.

"Whatever he wanted to do, he did it," Vaught said.

He said Moore set up a practice ramp 70 feet long and 10 feet deep in Krum, a town of about 5,000 people 50 miles northwest of Dallas that rarely sees snow and where snowmobiles are as rare as toboggans.

Caleb began launching his snowmobile into pools of foam a month before the 2010 X Games. After a brief training run on snow ramps in Michigan, Vaught said he joined the big leagues and never looked back. In the off-months, he still uses the foam pit in Texas for practice.

Tucker Hibbert, who won his sixth straight SnoCross title at Winter X, hopes all these unfortunate incidents aren't what people think of when they think about snowmobiling.

"Obviously, at the X Games, you're seeing the most extreme side of our sport," said Hibbert, who's from Pelican Rapids, Minn. "It's definitely dangerous and exciting all at the same time. But it's also a lot different than what snowmobiling is in general.

"Friends and family riding around, going down the trails, having fun riding snowmobiles, is quite a bit different than hitting a 100-foot ramp and doing double backflips. Naturally, you'll see some injuries and some pretty big crashes when you're pushing the limits."

Vaught said Moore's only previous injury was a bruised hip that sent him to the hospital last year, where he was treated and released.

"In sports, everybody makes mistakes, even if it's rare. Caleb made a mistake. That's it," said Vaught, who witnessed Moore's crash.

The spills at Winter X weren't just limited to snowmobiles. Rose Battersby suffered a lumbar spine fracture in a wipeout on a practice run before the skiing slopestyle competition. She was transported to Denver on Sunday and had feeling in all extremities, according to X Games officials.

Soon after her crash, Ashley Battersby, who's not related to Rose, wiped out on the course and slid into the fencing. Battersby was down for at least 30 minutes before being carted off on a sled and taken to a local hospital with a knee injury.

There also was a bad wipeout in the snowboard big air competition, when Halldor Helgason of Iceland suffered a concussion when he over-rotated on a flip. He raised his hand to salute the crowd as he was being taken off the icy course.

Moore's crash came just over a year after one of the most high-profile deaths in the extreme sports community.

Canadian freestyle icon Sarah Burke died Jan. 19, 2012, after sustaining irreversible brain damage in a training accident in Park City, Utah. The 29-year-old was a pioneer in the sport and a driving force behind the inclusion of slopestyle and halfpipe skiing at next year's Winter Games in Sochi.

Missile launcher shows up at Seattle gun buyback

Joshua Trujillo / AP

Seattle Police Department officers examine an inert surface to air missile launcher brought to the gun buy back program run by the Seattle Police Department on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013. The city has collected donations totaling nearly $120,000 to pay for a series of gun buyback events. Participants have been asked to unload and secure their weapons in the trunk of their vehicle or in a locked container.

By Phuong Le, The Associated Press

Seattle police worked with Army officials Monday to track down the history of a nonfunctional missile launcher that showed up at a weapons buyback program and determine whether it was legal or possibly stolen from the military.

A man standing outside the event Saturday bought the military weapon for $100 from another person there, according to Detective Mark Jamieson.

The single-use device is a launch tube assembly for a Stinger portable surface-to-air missile and already had been used. As a controlled military item, it is not available to civilians through any surplus or disposal program offered by the government, according to Jamieson.

Seattle police have contacted Army officials at Joint Base Lewis-McChord near Tacoma deputy chief Nick Metz said Monday.

"Once it's brought on base and investigators have a chance to look at it, they'll see what they can determine," Army spokesman Joe Kubistek said Monday. "It's too early to give any information on it until we have hands-on access to see it and take a look at it."

Police witnessed the private exchange of the military launch tube near the gun buyback event, where gun buyers tempted those standing in long lines to turn in their weapons with cash.

"It was absolutely crazy what we saw out there," Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn said at a news conference Monday where officials announced they had collected a total of 716 weapons, including four confirmed as stolen.

Officers saw guns changing private hands without knowing whether the person buying the gun had the legal right to buy it, and those transactions are occurring all the time, McGinn said.

Joshua Trujillo / AP

Seattle Police Department Sgt. Paul Gracy holds an inert surface to air missile launcher brought to a gun buy back program run by the Seattle Police Department on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013.

He added that the private sales of the missile launch tube and other weapons illustrate the need for comprehensive background checks as proposed by President Barack Obama, as well as other regulations at the state level.

While there were private gun buyers at the periphery of Saturday's event, Metz said a large majority of people chose to wait in line and get less money because they wanted to make sure they got the weapons off the streets.

"These are very dangerous weapons," Metz said. "They may not have looked very pretty, but (they're) definitely operable."

The firearms collected included 348 pistols, 364 rifles and three so-called street sweepers, or shotguns that include a high capacity magazine capable of holding twelve 12-gauge shotgun shells.

The program allowed people to anonymously turn in their weapons for a shopping gift card worth up to $200 -- $100 for each handgun, rifle or shotgun turned in, and $200 for each gun classified as an assault weapon under state law. Officials distributed about $70,000 in gift cards at Saturday's event.

Police took possession of the launch tube Saturday. Police said the man who had purchased it agreed to accept a gift card as compensation if the launch tube is not returned to him, though the man indicated he wanted to keep it if he was legally able to do so.

McGinn said he wanted to plan another buyback event soon and urged more donations to the program.

Meanwhile, police said people who wanted to turn in guns could do so at any time outside a buyback program, though they wouldn't be compensated for it.

Scammed Football Fan Scores Super Bowl Tickets

Sharon Osgood and her boyfriend are headed to the Super Bowl even after they were bilked out of nearly $6,000 when they thought they were buying the prized football tickets on Craigslist.

Despite the scam, Osgood emerged a winner.

Her story caught the attention of Ticketmaster CEO Nathan Hubbard, who offered Osgood?four free tickets and set her up with breakfast with NFL legend Troy Aikman, according to the Mercury News, which first reported her story.

A 49ers representative is giving her a pair of tickets, too, because Osgood wanted to bring her nephew's girlfriend. Her boyfriend's daughter and her nephew are also going. She has one left over for another relative.

"I am so super excited," Osgood told NBC Bay Area on Tuesday afternoon. "I can't tell you how blessed I feel. We were crushed, and then we were elated."

A resident of Hayward, Calif., in the Bay Area, Osgood??was scouring the Internet looking for deals on Super Bowl tickets so she could see her beloved San Francisco 49ers play the Baltimore Ravens in New Orleans on Sunday.

She found an offer on Craiglist from someone named "R. Thomas Pham Quan,"?who was selling four tickets for $5,900. He told her that he was a tax attorney in Boca Raton, Fla., and a Baltimore Ravens season ticket holder.

Osgood?texted and spoke on the phone with this person for four days, she said. She wired the money to the man's credit union, and on Monday, received a FedEx package. But there were no Super Bowl tickets inside.

Instead of tickets, Osgood said, she?was sent a picture of quarterbacks Colin Kaepernick and Joe Flacco with a message underneath that read: "Enjoy the game!!!! Go Ravens!!!"

On Tuesday, the phone number she had been using was no longer working. She said she filed a report with the Alameda County Sheriff's Department late Monday. A spokesman for the sheriff's office was not immediately available to confirm the details.

Osgood said the person sounded so convincing and she felt she "knew" him because they had so many phone and text conversations about the transaction.

"I trusted the guy," she said.

Craigslist warns that buyers should not wire money directly to sellers. Best practices in this online marketing world are that buyers and sellers who connect on Craigslist should meet in public places and pay in cash.

Buyers and sellers on sites such as eBay should heed sellers' ratings listed online, which reflect their number of successful transactions, and pay through PayPal, a secured site owned by eBay.

Osgood was initially worried about going public with her story. But now, she's happy she decided she put a face on her saga. Not only did she score free tickets, but she said she wants to prevent others from falling prey to ticket scammers.

"Who knows? Maybe they scammed other people, too," she said. "I won't ever do this again."

These Warped Chairs Are Actually a Mind Melting Optical Illusion

These warped chairs, designed by French studio Ibride, have so many hidden features it's making my brain wrinkle at a rate it's never scrunched up before. The optical illusion is to show the chair with a classic silhouette from one angle, while the actual sitting of the chair requires a completely different angle. It's a mind trip! Chris Brown investigated for possible assault

WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (AP) ? Grammy-winning singer Chris Brown is under investigation for an alleged assault in a West Hollywood parking lot, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said early Monday.

Deputies responding to a report of six men fighting Sunday night found the scene clear, but were told by witnesses there had been a brief fight over a parking space.

"The altercation allegedly led to Chris Brown punching the victim," the department said in a statement released early Monday morning.

The "victim" wasn't identified, but the celebrity website TMZ, which first reported the fight outside the Westlake Recording Studio, said it also involved Frank Ocean, one of the top nominees at the Grammy Awards next month.

In a Twitter posting later, Ocean said he "got jumped by (Brown) and a couple guys" and suffered a finger cut.

It wasn't Brown's first problem in the run-up to the Grammys. His attack on singer Rihanna on the eve of the 2009 awards event overshadowed the show.

Last June, he was injured in a brawl with members of hip-hop star Drake's entourage at a New York nightclub.

No arrests were made. Brown was gone by the time deputies arrived but the department said the investigation is ongoing and Brown would be contacted later.

Email messages to Ocean's publicist and Brown's lawyer and representative were not immediately returned. A man answering the phone at the recording studio declined to comment.

Brown, 23, remains on probation for the attack on Rihanna and is due back in court on Feb. 6 to update a judge on his progress. Prosecutors have raised concerns about records showing that Brown has completed his community labor obligations.

AMSTERDAM (AP) ? The Netherlands' Queen Beatrix says she will abdicate her throne in April to make way for her eldest son, Crown Prince Willem-Alexander. Here are some questions and answers about the Netherlands' House of Orange and how it's a little different than, for instance, the British monarchy.

A DUTCH MONARCH CAN JUST UP AND QUIT?

Absolutely. Unlike in Britain, where Queen Elizabeth holds religious titles and seems to see it as her duty to rule until she is no longer able, the Dutch monarch is more or less a government job. The queen or king is the head of state and falls under the purview of the prime minister. Queen Beatrix is turning 75, and she's been in office for 33 years. There's really nothing in the way of her stepping down to enjoy her immense personal wealth and her hobbies, which include skiing and horseback riding.

WILL SHE BE MISSED?

There are a few republicans who want the monarchy abolished. But the large majority of Dutch ? probably even most republicans ? like the queen and think she has handled her job with grace and dedication. She has been part of Dutch lives for a generation, through national tragedies and triumphs. In casual conversation, people refer to her simply as "Bea." As former Prime Minister Wim Kok put it, when he heard the news she was stepping down: "I got goose bumps. You know it's coming, but still, it's the end of an era." Beatrix's abdication speech drew 7 million viewers out of a population of 16.8 million ? close to the 8 million who watched the soccer World Cup final the Dutch lost in 2010.

WHO'S THE NEW KING?

That would be Crown Prince Willem-Alexander Claus George Ferdinand. The Dutch informally call him "Wim-Lex," which is a step up from "Prince Pilsner," the nickname the tabloids gave him during his boozy university days.

Willem-Alexander's image improved as he became a family man with three young daughters and developed a career as a diplomat and water management expert. The prince's wife, Argentine investment banker Maxima Zorreguieta, is probably more popular than he is.

In line with the professional attitude of the Dutch monarchy, Willem-Alexander has served on various international water management boards, while soon-to-be Queen Maxima has been involved in promoting microfinance projects in developing countries.

WHAT'S HE GOT THAT I HAVEN'T GOT?

Apart from the wealth and titles he inherited by accident of birth, Willem-Alexander can: pilot jet planes, skate a 200-kilometer marathon along frozen canals in sub-zero weather conditions, and run the New York marathon. The 45-year-old has served on a U.N. advisory panel and been a member of the International Olympic Committee ? a job he regretfully quit Tuesday because it could conflict with his kingly duties.

SO WHAT ARE THE BEST DUTCH ROYAL SCANDALS? WHAT DO THE TABLOIDS SAY?

Beatrix's father, Prince Bernard, had his share. German-born, he served the Allies well in World War II, flying combat missions. Later in life, he had extramarital affairs and got tangled up in bribery accusations.

YOU'RE TELLING ME YOU'VE GOT NOTHING ON BEATRIX OR WILLEM-ALEXANDER?

Well, nothing directly on Beatrix. Willem-Alexander once crashed a car. And he was criticized by some for running onto the field and celebrating along with the Dutch women's hockey team after they won the bronze medal at the Olympics in Atlanta, although others saw that as a good thing.

But the most serious scandals they faced arose from their marriages. That's not because the character of any spouse was in question, but rather because of his or her family background.

Beatrix's marriage to her husband Prince Claus was initially resisted by the Dutch public, with many residents upset about his service with the Nazi army in World War II and membership in the Hitler Youth. He served in Italy near the end of the fighting and was quickly taken prisoner. As royal consort, he eventually became popular for his quiet, modest and honest nature.

Princess Maxima's father, meanwhile, was Agriculture Minister in Argentina in the murderous Videla regime of the late 1970s. Out of diplomatic considerations, her family won't be attending when she is sworn in as queen and Willem-Alexander is inaugurated as king on April 30.

"SWORN IN"? "INAUGURATED"? I THINK THE WORD YOU'RE LOOKING FOR IS "CROWNED."

Nope. Willem-Alexander won't be getting a crown placed on his head, or become overlord of all Dutch people. This goes back to the difference between the Dutch and British royal houses. The Dutch monarchy is not just more modern in viewing the kingship as more of a profession than a perhaps divinely ordained role, it's literally more modern. It was founded after the American Revolutionary War, and, more importantly in European terms, after the French Revolution. Dutch monarchs are inaugurated at a meeting of the upper and lower houses of the Dutch Parliament, where they promise to serve and uphold the country's constitution.

As a commoner, you are still supposed to address the monarch as "your highness," though, if you happen to bump into him or her at a cocktail party. It's protocol.

WILL THERE BE A PARTY TO USHER IN THE CHANGES? AND WHO GETS TO GO?

Most definitely. And everyone.

April 30, Queens' Day, rivals New Year's Eve as the biggest bash of the year in the Netherlands. There hasn't been a king on the Dutch throne in more than 100 years, but this year's celebration will probably be the last Queens' Day until one of Willem-Alexander's daughters ? presumably the oldest, Catharina-Amalia ? someday replaces him.

But next year there will be a King's Day at around the same time.

Prime Minister Mark Rutte has said Queen Beatrix doesn't think it's appropriate that she receive a big going away gift or that an excessive amount of money be spent on the celebration, given that the Dutch economy is in a weak patch. But ? this party being held in Amsterdam, which has a reputation to uphold ? he said it wouldn't be a sober affair either, where all they serve is "a little glass of fruit juice."

The biggest 1080p phone so far Pantech's 59inch Vega No 6

It's been such a mighty, mighty long time since the Vega No. 5 came out to tug on the Dell Streak 5's coattails, but Pantech has just announced the next installment in its phablet series: the 5.9-inch Vega No. 6. The Android 4.1 handset opts for an IPS LCD display, alongside a 13-megapixel rear camera capable of 1080p30 video and a hefty 2-megapixel front-facer. The battery is pretty big too at 3,150mAh, and it's powering a Snapdragon S4 Pro, which means the only thing we're missing right now is some concrete release info -- the official announcement has so far been entirely Korea-centric.

'Argo' wins Producers Guild Awards

LOS ANGELES (AP) ? "Argo" continues to shake up the Oscar race by taking the top honor at the Producers Guild Awards on Saturday.

Ben Affleck, coming off winning Golden Globe Awards for best motion picture drama and director for the real-life drama, received the award handed out at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

"I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that I'm still working as an actor," he said in his acceptance speech.

Affleck also stars in "Argo" as the CIA operative who orchestrated a daring rescue of six American embassy employees during the 1979 Iranian hostage crisis. George Clooney and Grant Heslov share the producer award with Affleck as "Argo" beat out the Civil War saga "Lincoln," which has a leading 12 Academy Awards nominations.

Other nominees in the PGA movie category were "Les Miserables," ''Zero Dark Thirty," ''Beasts of the Southern Wild," ''Django Unchained," ''Life of Pi," ''Moonrise Kingdom," ''Silver Linings Playbook," and Skyfall."

Along with honors from other Hollywood professional groups such as actors, directors and writers guilds, the producer prizes have become part of the preseason sorting out contenders for Academy Awards.

The big winner often goes on to claim the best-picture honor at the Oscars on Feb. 24.

Disney's "Wreck-It Ralph" won the guild's animation category, beating "Brave," ''Frankenweenie," ''ParaNorman" and "Rise of the Guardians."

"Searching for Sugar Man" took the documentary prize, beating "A People Uncounted," ''The Gatekeepers," ''The Island President," and "The Other Dream Team."

Showtime's "Homeland" won the producer's award for television drama series, which beat out "Breaking Bad," ''Downton Abbey," ''Game of Thrones," and "Mad Men."

The ABC sitcom "Modern Family" took the prize for best comedy series for the third straight year, beating "30 Rock," ''The Big Bang Theory," ''Curb Your Enthusiasm," and "Louie."

Annenberg Foundation to build nature center at Ballona Wetlands

The Annenberg Foundation plans to build a $50-million interpretive center in the Ballona Wetlands Ecological Reserve under an agreement to be signed Monday with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Officials aim to make the center a place for people to "come to learn how nature works and how each of them is a part of it," said Charlton H. "Chuck" Bonham, Fish and Wildlife director.

The announcement marked rare movement in the state's efforts to restore one of Southern California's few remaining wetlands and open it to the public. Activists, developers and government agencies have wrangled for decades over the fate of the 600 acres between Marina del Rey and Westchester.

One wetlands activist decried the Annenberg plan as a theft of public land slated for wildlife habitat.

"I'm shocked and disappointed that the Annenberg Foundation would even entertain the idea of destroying land acquired for wildlife habitat and using it for a building, a restaurant and a parking lot," said Marcia Hanscom, executive director of the Ballona Institute, a nonprofit corporation.

But Lisa Fimiani, executive director of Friends of Ballona Wetlands, said her group has embraced Annenberg's involvement and investment. She said that the acre proposed for the building site is in poor condition and that Annenberg plans to improve the adjoining ball fields as part of the project. "We welcome them," she said.

Officials said details of the Annenberg plan were still evolving but that key elements would include educational programs and exhibits about wetlands, human-wildlife interactions and the history of Native Americans in the area.

The 46,000-square-foot project would tentatively include an auditorium, classrooms, a public lobby, exhibits on wildlife and domestic animals, facilities for an animal adoption and care program, veterinary facilities for animals on site, retail space, parking and office space for staff. A snack bar is also a possibility.

The California State Coastal Conservancy and the Santa Monica Bay Restoration Commission would be parties to the agreement.

This is not Annenberg's first effort to team with government on a habitat project.

In 2011, Annenberg withdrew plans to create a $50-million animal-focused educational complex on coastal city property in Rancho Palos Verdes. The proposal, submitted in 2008 after several years of preliminary discussions, was for a 51,000-square-foot facility that would have featured exhibit and classroom space and adoption suites for 10 dogs and eight cats. The idea met with opposition from Rancho Palos Verdes residents and concerns of state and federal officials.

A decade ago, the state paid $139 million in voter-approved bond money to buy what was left of the Ballona Wetlands, the last sizable coastal marsh in Los Angeles County, from Playa Capital, the developer of Playa Vista. The Ballona Wetlands deal, negotiated in part by the nonprofit Trust for Public Land, saved the area from development.

The state is in the early stages of an environmental review of the wetlands area, which stretches south and west from the proposed interpretive center. The site, once owned by industrialist Howard Hughes, is home to great blue herons, burrowing owls, the El Segundo blue butterfly, voles and lizards, although its ecosystem has become degraded by exotic plants and dumping.

Talks continue on how best to restore and preserve the wetlands. Activists have made various proposals and vow to fight any plans to bulldoze invader weeds there.

Bonham and Leonard Aube, Annenberg Foundation executive director, said they hoped construction of the interpretive center could begin in 2014, depending on the timing and outcome of a required review under the California Environmental Quality Act.

Aube said the foundation would also consider providing funds for trails, lighting, parking, signage and a full- or part-time state worker at the reserve.

What's a filibuster look like? Not Jimmy Stewart

FILE - This undated black-and-white file photo provided by Columbia shows James Stewart in a scene from the movie: "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington". The Senate has more filibusters than ever these days. But you'd hardly know it by watching the chamber on C-SPAN. Filibusters are procedural delays that outnumber lawmakers, used to try killing bills and nominations. They seldom look like the exhausted talkathon waged by the devoted senator portrayed by Stewart in the film, ?Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.? Instead, lawmakers intent on killing a bill simply inform majority Democrats that to pass the measure, they will need yes votes from 60 of the 100 senators. With Democrats controlling just 55 votes, nothing can pass without at least some Republican support. (AP) ? From Jimmy Stewart's fictional all-night talkathon to real-life dramas over World War I and civil rights, the Senate's filibuster has played a notable ? sometimes reviled ? role in the nation's history. Now the slow-moving, famously deliberative chamber is on the verge of dialing it back ? modestly.

Filibusters are procedural delays that outnumbered lawmakers use to try killing bills and nominations. But they seldom look like the speech delivered by the exhausted, devoted senator portrayed by Stewart in the film, "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington."

In fact, the Senate has more filibusters than ever these days. But you'd hardly know it by watching the chamber on C-SPAN television.

These days, lawmakers intent on killing a bill simply inform majority Democrats that to pass the measure, they will need yes votes from 60 of the 100 senators. With Democrats controlling just 55 votes, nothing can pass that threshold without at least some Republican support.

And that has brought the Senate virtually to a standstill on a list of sweeping legislation, from tax hikes on the wealthy to limits on greenhouse gas emissions. The resulting gridlock helped inspire recession-weary Americans to slap the last Congress with some of the lowest approval ratings in history.

Party leaders on Thursday struck a tentative agreement to limit the use of filibusters when the Senate begins debating a bill and when it wants to try writing compromise legislation with the House. It would also speed approval of some nominations by reducing the amount of debate allowed after the Senate has voted to end debate. A vote later Thursday seemed likely.

But the pact would still let the minority party force majorities to get 60 votes to prevail. Still, the tentative deal on filibusters would clear the way for other legislation, like a $50.5 billion emergency relief measure for Superstorm Sandy victims.

Defenders of filibusters say the enormous power it gives to the minority party is what differentiates the Senate from the House, where rules give almost absolute power to the majority party when it remains united.

Opponents say the practice makes a mockery of the concept of majority rule. Democrats say today's Republicans use the tactic far too often, while GOP senators insist they employ it so frequently because today's Democratic leaders block them from offering amendments.

Numbers compiled by the Senate Historian's Office underscore how the practice has grown.

There were 73 votes to end filibusters ? called "cloture votes" ? in the two-year Congress that ended early this month. There were 91 cloture votes in the Congress that ran from 2009 to 2011, and 112 in the Congress that last from 2007 to 2009. Republicans were in the Senate minority for all of those years.

Each of those numbers exceed the number of cloture votes in any previous Congresses. The Congress that was in session in 1939, the year Stewart's movie was made, didn't have any such votes.

Originally, there were no rules that could stop senators from debating as long as they wanted.

President Woodrow Wilson persuaded senators to approve a rule in 1917 stopping such delays with a two-thirds vote. Two years later it was used for the first time, when senators used cloture to end delaying tactics holding up approval of the Treaty of Versailles, which ended World War I. And in 1957, South Carolina Sen. Strom Thurmond, then a Democrat, set a record by speaking for 24 hours, 18 minutes against the Civil Rights Act.

Despite his effort ? which included reading the election laws of all the states ? the measure eventually became law.

The number of votes needed to end filibusters was changed in 1975 to a three-fifths majority. That's 60 votes today.

The delaying tactics were used by a string of Southern senators to try thwarting civil rights legislation. The longest filibuster on record stretched over 57 days as Southerners used various tactics to unsuccessfully try blocking the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Over time, the maneuver has been used on dozens of issues including efforts to abolish the Electoral College, block a 1974 genocide treaty, grant pardons to Vietnam War draft evaders and to add an anti-abortion amendment to the Constitution.

There are few restraints on what senators can say while filibustering on the Senate floor.

According to a 1940 study, Sen. Huey Long of Louisiana used some of his time describing his technique for frying oysters. A 1992 filibuster on a tax bill by then Sen. Alphonse D'Amato, R-N.Y., that lasted 15 hours and 14 minutes, including his singing a rendition of "South of the Border."

Filibusters in which senators actually spoke continuously on the floor began dying out in the 1970s and 1980s, when the chamber's leaders decided the delays were preventing too much work from getting done, according to Senate Historian Donald Ritchie.

In addition, while filibustering senators only needed a handful of lawmakers to keep talking, the majority party had to keep at least 51 senators nearby, often sleeping on cots in the Senate cloakroom, Ritchie said. That was needed to prevent the minority from voting to adjourn the Senate and further delaying the legislation in question. As a result, filibusters proved more exhausting to the majority than to filibustering lawmakers, he said.

Lightning linked to onset of headache, migraines

Jan. 24, 2013 ? University of Cincinnati (UC) researchers have found that lightning may affect the onset of headache and migraines.

These results, published in the Jan. 24, 2013 online edition of the journal Cephalalgia, are the first tying lightning to headache and could help chronic sufferers more efficiently anticipate headache and migraine arrival and begin preventive treatment immediately.

Geoffrey Martin, fourth-year medical student at UC, and his father Vincent Martin, MD, professor in the division of general internal medicine, UC Health physician and headache expert, led the study which showed that there was a 31 percent increased risk of headache and 28 percent increased risk of migraine for chronic headache sufferers on days lighting struck within 25 miles of study participant's homes.

In addition, new-onset headache and migraine increased by 24 percent and 23 percent in participants.

"Many studies show conflicting findings on how weather, including elements like barometric pressure and humidity, affect the onset of headaches," Geoffrey Martin says. "However, this study very clearly shows a correlation between lightning, associated meteorological factors and headaches."

Participants who fulfilled the criteria for International Headache Society-defined migraines were recruited from sites located in Ohio and Missouri and recorded their headache activity in a daily journal for three to six months.

During this time, the location where lightning struck within 25 miles of participant's homes as well as the magnitude and polarity of lightning current was recorded.

"We used mathematical models to determine if the lightning itself was the cause of the increased frequency of headaches or whether it could be attributed to other weather factors encountered with thunderstorms," says Vincent Martin. "Our results found a 19 percent increased risk for headaches on lightning days, even after accounting for these weather factors. This suggests that lightning has its own unique effect on headache."

He says that negatively charged lightning currents were also particularly associated with a higher chance of headache.

"There are a number of ways in which lightning might trigger headaches," he says. "Electromagnetic waves emitted from lightning could trigger headaches. In addition, lightning produces increases in air pollutants like ozone and can cause release of fungal spores that might lead to migraine."

"This study gives some insight into the tie between headaches or migraines, lightning and other meteorologic factors," says Geoffrey Martin. "However, the exact mechanisms through which lightning and/or its associated meteorologic factors trigger headache are unknown, although we do have speculations. Ultimately, the effect of weather on headache is complex, and future studies will be needed to define more precisely the role of lightning and thunderstorms on headache."

What is a good workout routine to build muscle faster? | Fitness and ...

I need a routine that i can do at home to build my muscle fast. I have a dumbells a barbell and a workout bench.

"Routines" are not what you need: you just have to approach this from the right angles, and do this consistently: if you slip up too often you will not make good gains.

1) Do intense exercise sessions for each muscle or muscle group, only twice per week ? not more. You have to give your muscles time to recover properly between sessions, or they will become over-worked and start hurting, and your results will be poor overall.

2) STRETCH properly at 4 times: 1) after a warm-up, before your full-out exercise session, 2) right after your session, 3) gently, before going to bed, and 4) whenever your muscles feel tight. Relaxed muscles recover faster, don?t hurt nearly as much as they would if tight, and don?t get injured as easily as tight muscles do. Have someone show you the proper stretching exercises for legs ? a gym teacher or a coach: someone who knows how to do it properly. Always remember 3 things when stretching, however: 1) Slow and easy does it ? don?t force anything. 2) Stretching should NOT hurt. If it hurts, back off a bit. and 3) Hold the maximum pain-free extension for at least 30 seconds: any less and you are not getting much benefit from the stretch. // Repeat each stretch a couple of times.

3) Mix up your exercise routines ? this is called the "muscle confusion" technique. Do different exercises every couple of months, instead of sticking with a single set of exercises for long periods of time.

4) You must always "overload" your muscles: In order to build new muscle tissue, you must overload the muscle and force it to adapt to the new stresses you have put on it. Training with the same routine and weights does not accomplish this. Make sure to incorporate things like supersets, dropsets, and 5?5 training techniques (you can look these up on the internet. Make sure you go to "failure" each time, but also make sure you do each rep with excellent form: poor form is a recipe for injury and poor gains!! For bulk, use longer sets and less weight than you would use for strength training.

5) Get enough sleep!!! When you are sleeping, your body produces "growth hormone", which is necessary for muscle growth and recovery. If you don?t get enough sleep, your recovery times will be longer and less complete.

6) Drink enough water!! Forget formulas like "8 cups a day" or any such nonsense: the best way to tell if you are getting enough water, is the color of your pee: it should be quite pale. If it is yellow, you are not drinking enough ? case closed. (if it is red, you?ve been eating beets, lol!). Water is very important for both energy during exercise, and for recovery.

7) Eat a good, nutritious diet ? scrap the junk food, stay away from stuff with white flour or sugar in it, eat lots of fruits and especially veggies (dark green veggies are dyno ? mite!!), get good variety in your diet, and aim for about 1,5 to at the **most** 2 grams of protein per pound of body weight.

8) Stay away from drugs, including and especially alcohol and tobacco. They will hold you back by damaging your health ? and alcohol will increase your estrogen levels, which is NOT a good thing for a guy!!

I may be missing some details, but those are the basics!! All the Best to you.
