You Won't Believe It's Salt-Free ? Cookbook Review - Eat Drink Better

You Won't Believe It's Salt-Free

Robyn Webb?s latest cookbook, You Won?t Believe It?s Salt-Free, offers 125 healthy, low-sodium and no-sodium recipes using flavorful spice blends.

In the first chapter, the author notes that 250 to 500 milligrams of sodium each day is necessary to keep the human body. We can?t do away with salt entirely. However, the average American ingests 3400 to 3700 milligrams of sodium daily. There?s clearly a lot of room to reduce the amount of sodium in our diets.

Salt has been implicated as a risk factor for high blood pressure in about one-third of Americans. High blood pressure can damage arteries, eyesight, kidney health, and cause numerous other health problems. Processed foods and fast foods contribute most of the sodium in the average American?s diet. Just switching to unprocessed foods and cooking a few meals a week from scratch will help reduce sodium easily and allow time to really savor the food.

The trick, of course, is making the food taste good. That?s where Robyn Webb?s cookbook comes in. She jumps right in by giving the reader some spice blends to make at home and also including resources on purchasing ready-made salt-free spice blends. You Won?t Believe It?s Salt-Free divides the 125 recipes into starters, snacks, marinades (delicious, with only five or six ingredients each), main dishes, sides, soups, and desserts. Several menus are included to make meal planning even easier.

Most of the recipes in the book are vegan, although none of the 22 main dishes are. A cook who is deft with a meatless substitution might enjoy the seasoning ideas she presents.

If one of your New Year?s resolutions was to eat healthy, this cookbook can help with lots of ideas for spicing up your food while reducing your sodium intake.
